Shamu has passed away...9/9/2009

Sorry for the delay in letting everyone know about Shamu. He passed away unexpectedly on 9/9/2009-possibly had his stomach twist inside of his ribcage and caused bloating. That is what the vet said? Didn't know where my passwords were to get back on here, finally remembered them. Lots of other things have been going on, too. I may leave this sight up for a while, but will not be posting to it anymore. Hope everyone enjoyed it.

Swimming with two of the Four Muskateers...

Since we do not have swimming weather yet, thought I would share our buddies site with you. This is Joyce and Cody having fun at the swimming pool. Makes us want to go swimming! But, we don't have a pool like this around here..looks like a lot of fun, though!

Pampering Pets Texas Style!

This is a great idea!If there were enough people in my area who would do this, it would be a great business to start! I live outside Dallas a little, so most people here do their own pampering of their pets. But, check this site out....too cool! This would work great for me...since I am not too fond of being around strangers...

Yucky day

Well, the weather has changed again and it is now misty and foggy! Prissy and I have been sleeping most of the day since we can't go outside and play frisbee or anything. The cats have been taking turns sitting in mom's lap while she has been working today. Don't know what has gotten into them, but they think they cannot last more than a few minutes on the floor! She puts them back on the floor and they promptly jump right back up in her lap. They are kind of cute...and they aren't pulling on my tail as often as they used to. So, guess they are starting to get used to me now?Think I will let them stay... lol.

Hopefully mom will get her camera fixed soon so we can put some more pictures on here. The bluebonnet season is coming and we should be able to get several good ones when they start blooming. Plus they have a huge polka festival coming to town in May...maybe we can get some pictures of the parade and costumed people.??? We'll see what happens! Have a great evening and give your pets an extra hug.

Having a chocolate meltdown?

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day and got some sweet gifts! (...wipe that chocolate off your face...) I guess my mom hid any chocolate she may have had, since we can't eat it...not for lack of trying, though. She has to hide all chocolate from Prissy. I normally don't mess with anything on the table, so she didn't think anything about leaving chocolate kisses there in a dish when Prissy was younger. Prissy got in there when mom was busy, stole the candy, and ate all of the chocolates...wrappers and all! Mom was real worried, but it didn't seem to affect Prissy any. So, now mom hides anything she doesn't want us to eat...especially anything chocolate. Plus, thanks to Prissy, if we get too quite...mom knows to come looking for us, cause we're probably into something. Bummer!

R.E.A.D. Therapy dogs

This is a great organization for children who have problems reading. They also accept pets into the program, after training. So, if you are a dog who can lay still for hours, like strangers, etc...check into being a R.E.A.D. dog!You could make a huge difference in the life of children!

My strange behavior

My mom noticed something today that I do quite often. I do not know why I do this, but I do. It seems that anytime my mom offers me something to eat (people food), she must take a bite first, before I will eat it. This includes my favorites, like pizza, burgers, etc. I guess that I want to make sure it is worthy of her tastes...if not, I do not want it either! Once she has taken a bite, I will usually eat whatever it is. That is, unless it is fruit or some yucky vegetables. I do not particularly like those things...although, I have been known to eat some bananas with peanut butter. But, don't tell anyone about the bananas...may ruin my meat eating image.

Do you have any quirky behavior? If so, share with me!

Lucy: The Tree Climbing Dog

This is Lucy...she is a tree climber. I think she must hang out with some cats, too??? She is the same breed as I am, but I don't climb trees...I haven't mastered that trick.

New day, new friends

Hello, everyone! It is a beautiful day today! All of the bad storms are gone and the sun is once again shining brightly. I even got to go for another ride with my mom a few minutes ago. I love that!

I met some awesome friends today, too! I signed up with "http://www.scottyfriends.ning.com"-they tell you everything about scotties that you could ever want to know. There are some great humans on this site, too! They allowed me to join, so they must be awesome...since we all know I am not a scottie. (Not to mention, I already made several friends and have only signed up today!!! How cool!!!) Check them out!

Evening walk...

We went out for an evening walk (mom says I "drag", not walk.) I really am trying to do better, but I just can't help being excited with life! I have to check out everything and mark every bush so other dogs know that I was there. I did real good this time, though...I didn't bark at anyone, or any cars tonight! I am so proud of myself!!! I even got mom to grin by being so good. (She hasn't grinned a lot lately because of my whining all day! I just can't seem to help myself. I know mom will be glad when Prissy is out of heat!) The cats were all waiting at the door for my return. I can't believe they missed me so much. Okay, maybe it was mom they missed, cause they took off when I came in the door first. Anyway, have a great night and I will talk to you tomorrow!

Puppy size..

Get the kleenex ready! My sis sent me this...enjoy!

Puppy Size... This is one of the neatest stories you will ever hear. You will

know precisely what this little girl is talking about at the end (you'll want

to share this one with your loved ones and special friends)!

'Danielle keeps repeating it over and over again. We've been back to

this animal shelter at least five times. It has been weeks now since

we started all of this,' the mother told the volunteer. 'What is it she

keeps asking for?' the volunteer asked. 'Puppy size!' replied the

mother.

'Well, we have plenty of puppies, if that's what she's looking for.

' 'I know... we have seen most of them,' the mum said in

frustration... Just then Danielle came walking into the office

'Well, did you find one?' asked her mum. 'No, not this time,

'Danielle said with sadness in her voice 'Can we come back

on the weekend?'

The 2 women looked at each other, shook their heads and

laughed 'You never know when we will get more dogs.

Unfortunately, there's always a supply,' the volunteer said.

Danielle took her mother by the hand and headed to the door.

'Don't worry, I'll find one this weekend,' she said.Over the next

few days both Mum and Dad had long conversations with her.

They both felt she was being too particular. 'It's this weekend

or we're not looking any more,' Dad finally said in frustration.

'We don't want to hear anything more about puppy size, either,'

Mom added. Sure enough, they were the first ones in the shelter

on Saturday morning. By now Danielle knew her way around,

so she ran right for the section that housed the smaller dogs.

Tired of the routine, mum sat in the small waiting room at the

end of the first row of cages. There was an observation window

so you could see the animals during times when visitors weren't

permitted.

Danielle walked slowly from cage to cage, kneeling periodically

to take a closer look. One by one the dogs were brought out and

she held each one. One by one she said, 'Sorry, but you're not

the one.' It was the last cage on this last day in search of the

perfect pup. The volunteer opened the cage door and the

child carefully picked up the dog and held it closely.

This time she took a little longer. 'Mum, that's it! I found

the right puppy! He's the one! I know it!' She screamed

with joy. 'It's the puppy size!'

'But it's the same size as all the other puppies you held over

the last few weeks,' Mum said. 'No not size... The sighs.

When I held him in my arms, he sighed,' she said.

'Don't you remember? When I asked you one day what

love is, you told me love depends on the sighs of your

heart. The more you love, the bigger the sigh!'

The 2 women looked at each other for a moment.

Mum didn't know whether to laugh or cry. As she stooped

down to hug the child, she did a little of both.

'Mum, every time you hold me, I sigh. When you and Daddy

come home from work and hug each other, you both sigh.

I knew I would find the right puppy if it sighed when I

held it in my arms,' she said. Then, holding the puppy

up close to her face, she said, 'Mum, he loves me.

I heard the sighs of his heart!'

Close your eyes for a moment and think about the love

that makes you sigh. I not only find it in the arms of my

loved ones, but in the caress of a sunset, the kiss of the

moonlight and the gentle brush of cool air on a hot day.

They are the sighs of God. Take the time to stop and listen;

you will be surprised at what you hear. 'Life is not measured

by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our

breath away.'

Hope your life is filled with Sighs !!!

Dog's selective hearing

My mom says I have selective hearing. It always amazes her how I can pretend that I do not hear her when it is time to come in from playing; however, let her open a bag of anything that has food in it and I come running!!! I can be half asleep, outside...it doesn't matter...when I hear those bags opening, I am hot to trot. Just like I am ALWAYS ready to go when she says, "want to go bye-bye?". I am at the door in an instant!

In all fairness,I am not the only one with selective hearing. Prissy and the cats have the same problem! I think the cats are worse though, they come running if she opens anything with the can opener. I am not quite that bad!I do have a little constraint! We all feel we are entitled to eat whatever mom has! Doesn't always work out that way, but not for lack of trying on our part!(We even congregate in the doorway of the kitchen when she cooks, looking pathetic, and even giving the "poor woe is me" eyes!)

Seriously, anyone who owns a border collie/Australian shepherd knows that our hearing is outstanding. Most of the time, I hear everything going on, even mom calling me to come in...but just like children, I push the envelope until I hear that certain tone! Kind of like when you were young and your mom used your full name...you knew you had better hightail it in quick!

So,today's lesson is: Be selective with your selective hearing!Sometimes it is for your own good to listen to your mom!

Practicing for American Idol???

I'm not in the Sunshine state, but we have sunshine today!

Awesome, awesome day!!! We have sunshine and it is 65 degrees! Perfect frisbee weather! I have talked to some fellow bloggers from the north. I definitely feel for them! They have snow and expect more snow today! I am thankful I live in Texas!

Granted, our weather changes constantly. For the most part, though, I can play outside almost all year round! I love to play!!! Prissy and I have been outside chasing squirrels, each other, and the frisbee all day today. The cat even got gutsy and came outside with us for a little while!

I do remember one year that it snowed here in February. Of course, it wasn't cold enough to last...just on the grass and trees a little. It was very pretty, though!!! Only time I have seen snow in my lifetime. It was funny watching the other animals walking around tip-toeing on their paws! Guess they had never seen it either and didn't know what to make of it. I enjoyed it, but I still love the spring and summertime best. (People around here don't cook out and throw me their bones in the winter!)

Anyway, have a terrific day and I will catch up with you later. I have some serious playing to do!!!

Cats are crazy!

I wasn't decided on what to write today, until I started noticing the cat. She had jumped into my owner's lap while she was on the computer. My owner was playing a game on line (Yahoo-Bouncing Balls) and the cat started swatting at the screen and kept trying to grab the pointer! Don't cats know that you can't reach through that screen??? Duh!

Now don't get me wrong...I have been known to jump my big self up into her lap while they are on the computer, too. However, I have NEVER swatted at the screen! Usually I am just wanting a hug, or more water, or something like that....or it is time for them to stop working and come play with me!! Frisbee time!!! (Too cold for that today...I wish it were Spring!!!)

Anyway, cats sure are funny. One minute they ignore you, the next they are trying to grab your tail, and now add swatting at the computer screen! I just don't understand cats!Do you?

I did notice online today a place I would like to go visit...they have a dog beach! Check out the cute photos at this site: "http://www.sandiegodogbeach.com/"..be sure and tell them Shamu @ "http://uought2badog.blogspot.com/" sent you!

Too cold to type!!!

My owner says it is too cold to type today! I think the weather is fine...of course, I have fur. I don't understand the rituals humans go through just to go outside in the cold...I mean, I don't put on any extra clothing, why do they have to??? It is funny seeing them all bundled up...makes it a little harder for them to play, if you ask me! I prefer to wear the fur God gave me...no scarves for me anymore!

Did I mention that when my owner saw my picture for the first time, I had a scarf on? The ladies at the shelter had put one on me. First and last time I wore one. Now, I don't know if that is the reason my owner picked me, but I am glad she did! I am also glad she doesn't dress me up in those anymore! Not my thing, however I am fine if others want to do that. I think I look pretty good without anything added! What do you think???

Oh, well...have a good evening and try to stay warm everyone!
